Fig. 6. Ultrasonographic assessment of the cricopharyngeal muscle (Cp). The transducer is placed transversely to the left of the trachea at the cricoid cartilage (Cc) level. The cricopharyngeus appears as an oval-shaped multilayer tubular structure. Bolus passing can be observed with the rounding of the Cp during swallowing. Ca: common carotid artery, Lc: longus colli, Tg: thyroid gland.
